Beethoven Prize 2024

The festival will include one International Piano Competition, selecting 1 student to perform with orchestra, on the festival, Beethoven´s Concerto nr. 1.

1) Repertoire

The competition will consist of three rounds:

Selection round:
 
Free choice repertoire, which must include: 
-One virtuoso Etude of the participant´s own choice, among those of Chopin, Liszt, Debussy, Rachmaninoff, Scriabin, Prokofiev or Ligeti
-A lyrical piece by Chopin or Debussy
 
The jury will finish the candidate’s audition at the end of the 12th minute, in case the repertoire exceeds this timing.
 
Semifinal:
6 pianists may be admitted.
– One Sonata or a set of Variations by Beethoven (max 20 minutes).
If the work exceedes the timing, the pianist should select movements/variations, otherwise the jury will cut the performance at the 20th minute.

 

Final:

3 pianists will be selected from the semifinals, should their level in the semifinal reach the standard considered appropriate by the jury, to perform with a second piano, the following concerto:

  • Beethoven: Piano Concerto No. 1 in C major, Op. 15
 

2) Prizes

The winner will perform with orchestra, on the festival, Beethoven´s Concerto nr. 1.

3) Rules

1. Competitors who are not ready to perform when called upon to do so may be disqualified.
2. The Jury retains the right to stop a performance if the competitor exceeds the allotted time.
3. Competitors cannot appeal against the decisions of the Jury.
4. Works must be performed by memory.
5. The jury reserves the right to select less finalists/prizewinners if the level of the performances is below the standard considered appropriate by the jury to perform as soloist with orchestra.
